Arlene Phillips has launched the Big Dance 2010 bus which will tour London’s boroughs to encourage people to participate in dancing.
It was officially launched at Sadler’s Wells, where it will continue a six week journey around London’s boroughs before returning to the Southbank Centre.
The converted Routemaster will be stopping at 16 locations around the capital in the countdown to the T-Mobile Big Dance 2010 week which takes place from 3-11 July.
On board T-Mobile Flash Mob dancers will burst out and encourage people to get up and dance, with Thomas Michael Voss teaching the moves to the T-Mobile Flash Mob dance.
Hakeem Onibudo and Annaliese Dayes will host at each stop, presenting the Schools Pledge workshops which Hakeem choreographed.
Big World Dance
Big Dance 2010 culminates in the Big World Dance on Saturday 11.
The Big World Dance will see up to 4,000 people dance from the Southbank Centre to Trafalgar Square. Choreographed by Luca Silvestrini of Protein Dance, the Big World Dance will include moves inspired by videos of people around the world who submit their videos to the Dance Atlas website.
Led by the Mayor of London in partnership with Arts Council England, Big Dance is also being funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to help build a lasting cultural and sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic Games.
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, said: “With TV shows, an astonishing array of styles on stage and brilliant choreographers working in the capital, dance is at an all time high. We want to get as many people moving as possible – not just in July, but to 2012 and beyond – so give Big Dance a whirl.”
