Collide Festival, the end of year show for students on the Dance: Urban Practice degree at University of East London, is using online crowdfunding website DanceFunder to cover event costs.
Organisers of Collide Festival will put contributions from donators online towards costumes, props, publicity and equipment and other necessities in exchange for perks such as wristbands, t-shirts and dance lessons.
Collide Festival: Where Dance Meets Performance will take place at Stratford Circus in East London on Friday 10 May 2013 and include students at the University of East London (UEL) presenting performances with special guest acts along with street art, dance battles, dance on screen and symposiums.

Guest acts lined up for the showcase include Theo Godson Oloyade, Wet Wipez and Fred Realness.
“The 2nd year Dance: Urban Practice students have been working their socks off this semester to ensure Collide festival is better than ever,” said Adrienne Hart, lecturer at UEL. “From a fundraising pop up style tuck shop and online crowd funding initiatives to a fresh, forward thinking programme featuring an impressive special guest line up; Collide festival is set to make a real impact on the East London dance scene.”
Created in 2007, the Dance: Urban Practice degree is part of The Institute for Performing Arts Development (IPAD) at UEL. IPAD has been established as a national centre for excellence with groundbreaking undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in music, theatre, dance and community arts.
“This year we are aiming to promote “where dance meets performance” by harnessing the vast array of dance styles available in the UK – from contemporary and popping to capoeira and bharatanatyam,” said Zarah Matin, second year Dance: Urban Practice degree student.
