Street Dance 3D earned £1.8m on its opening weekend, beating off rivals such as Robin Hood and Prince of Persia to become the number one movie at the box office.
James Narh, associate producer and founder of the championships, said: “You have seen the movie, now experience the real thing live with over 4000 spectators – a real chance to see today’s champions in tomorrow’s movie.”
Previously known as G Force, Street Dance Weekend has been the starting point for many dance groups that have gone on to appear on television. Previous Street Dance Weekend champions include, Diversity, Flawless and recently, Status, Twist & Pulse, Peridot and Mzytikal.
Preparation for the Street Dance XXL UK Championships live event is underway. The UK Championships will be opening its doors to audition over 1,000 street dancers wishing to qualify for the finals this summer.
“This is an exciting time as we are about to start our audition process and its open to all street dance groups out there, those with little or no experience who perhaps dance at school to professional groups we see on television” said Narh. “The auditions is an open opportunity for talent to make it to the spectacular finals in July.”
The championships take place on 25 July, at ExCel London ICC.
