Outspoken Dance 2010 logoAsh Mukherjee, finalist on BBC3’s Move Like Michael Jackson is to headline Outspoken Dance at the Lilian Baylis Theatre on 8 July.

Mukherjee, who is a bharatanatyam dancer, was described as “Unbelievable, emotional and out of the box special” by Jermaine Jackson.

Outspoken Dance is an annual showcase that fuses dance and spoken word, organised by Ashleigh Trezise.

“I’m really excited about Outspoken Dance this year,” said Trezise. “We have teamed up with Sadler’s Wells to bring the most unique blend of lyrical and physical talent.”

Joining Ash Mukherjee will be Tempered Body Dance Company, Sol Dans, Intrinsic Dance Company, Just Us Dance Theatre and street dance group Birdgang.

Artists and poets FLOetic Lara (from Live Vibe) and Michela The Poet will provide spoken word.

“Nowhere will you find such raw talent alongside prolific professionals! It’s the place to be seen and heard,” Trezise added.

In the past, Outspoken Dance has taken place at Hackney Empire. This will be its first time at the Lilian Baylis Theatre. Past street dance acts include that have appeared at Outspoken dance include Kenrick Sandy and Paradigmz.

Outspoken Dance is part of Big Dance 2010

Ash Mukherjee – Bharatanatyam dancer and finalist from TV show Move like Michael Jackson will be presenting his piece Aum. This piece was commissioned for the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

FLOetic Lara – Lyricist and poet Lara is a well known recording artist and is compared to Jill Scott in style with jazz vocal dexterity.

Michaela-The Poet This hugely popular poet and actress has a faithful following and is an Outspoken Dance veteran.

Tempered Body Dance Company present their moving piece Not Me Now bydirector/choreographer, Maddy Wynne-Jones,

Sol Dans, lead by choreographer and dancer Melody Squires present Abeyance with dancers Fiona McDonald and James Jenkins.

Intrinsic Dance Company, a young emerging company of feisty female jazz contemporary dancers bring their new work Tangled Divinity a fusion of styles and mixed emotions, to the stage.

Just Us Dance Theatre, talented young dancers from Northern Ballet School, The Place, London Studio Centre and Laban collaborate under the direction of Joseph Toonga and Ricardo De Silva
