The Big Dance Urban Jam will celebrate the success of a year-long programme of Yeovil Urban Dance events marking the progression of youth dance within the Yeovil area.
The Big Dance Urban Jam will take place inside and outside at the Octagon Theatre throughout the day and include workshops, performances, masterclasses, DJs, a Big Dance cinema and graffiti.
“This looks set to be a fantastic event with so many different activities throughout the day and a brilliant line up for the evening performance – to have Flawless, Boadicea and Rannel all on one bill is incredible and we expect the demand for tickets to be very high,” said Adam Burgan, arts and entertainment manager for The Octagon Theatre.
Big Dance Urban Jam
The Big Dance Urban Jam project was designed as a pilot to engage young people in dance through the music and dance styles they love led by Take Art, an arts charity that gives opportunities for people to experience, participate and work within the arts.
As a result of the pilot project three ‘Urban Hubs’ have been set up by young people that were part of the initiative in local community centres to host free dance events and classes.
Katey Leader, Take Art’s co-director of dance, said: “The Big Dance Urban Jam is about creating a sustainable future for dance activity within Yeovil, with plenty of opportunities to have a go yourself, witness fantastic local talent and amazing professional dance companies.”
The Big Dance Urban Jam takes place on Sunday 15 July the Octagon Theatre, Yeoville with tickets for the main performance from £14.
Big Dance 2012
