Southbank Centre announces Intelligent Movement – A Celebration of Hip Hop Culture line up part of Festival of Britain

The Southbank Centre, London has announced the line up for Intelligent Movement – A Celebration of Hip-Hop Culture, including B.Supreme and Street Dance XXL and appearances from the Electric Boogaloos.

Intelligent Movement: A Celebration of Hip-Hop Culture in association with Channel 4 was developed by Paul Gladstone Reid and Incredibly Creative Company to explore the four pillars of hip hop as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Festival of Britain.

Jude Kelly, artistic director of Southbank Centre said: “Southbank Centre has had a long association with street culture, starting with the skateboarders who have been coming here since the 1970s and break dancers on the riverside terraces, foyers and corridors.”

She continued: “In recent years street culture has come inside with b.supreme‘s celebration of female hip hop, successful runs of ZooNation’s incredible Into The Hoods and Udderbelly’s Free Run show this summer. Our new hip-hop festival gives us a chance to take a serious and celebratory look at the history of this fertile art form in all its guises.”

The festival will also include workshops, battles, discussions and a block party.

The Street Dance XXL UK Championships Finals will take place at the Royal Festival Hall Sunday 17 July. As announced by AllStreetDance earlier this year, Channel 4 will film the Street Dance XXL UK finals as part of their 10-day Street Summer season, which will broadcast in August this year. The 27 groups entering Street Dance XXL will also compete for a chance to represent Britain in a UK v USA showdown in New York.
